Sony XEL-1 OLED TV to ship in December

Sony announces its first OLED TV known as the XEL-1. It has an amazing 1,000,000:1 contrast ratio. Although in the prototype stage Sony was able to maintained a 1024 x 600 resolution, the final product only display up to 960x540 resolution.

The XEL-1 is expected to have a lifespan similar to most TV set, estimated around ten years at ten hours daily usage. The TV unit will weight at two kilogram and features connector including HDMI (single), Ethernet and USB. It supports analog and digital broadcast with its TV tuner.

Shipments are expected to begin on December 1st in Japan with price tag of $1744. Sony has not disclose any availability for US market yet.
