Sony Walkman S-Series and E-Series PMPs get official

Sony have officially whipped the wraps off of their latest two Walkman PMP models, the stereo-speaker-packing S-Series that you can see here, and the entry-level E-Series shown after the cut.  The S-Series – first spotted earlier this month – has a 2.4-inch QVGA LCD display supporting 30fps video playback, together with offering up to 17hrs of audio playback via the speakers.

Plug in some headphones, however, and that jumps to 42hrs of music or 6.5hrs of video.  There's also an FM radio and voice recorder, together with the ability to record directly from the radio onto the S-Series' 8GB or 16GB of internal storage. Supported file types include MP3, WMA (DRM), AAC (non DRM) and Linear PCM in audio, and AVC (H.264/AVC) Baseline Profile, MPEG-4 and WMV (DRM) in video.

As for the E-Series Walkman, that gets a smaller 2-inch LCD display (though still QVGA resolution with 30fps video playback) and a smaller battery, good for up to 30hrs of audio playback or 4hrs of video.  It too will come in 8GB and 16GB capacities, and support the same audio codecs as the S-Series together with WMV (DRM) video.

Both PMPs will begin shipping in the US come September, with the 8GB and 16GB Walkman S-Series priced at $110 and $130 respectively, while the 8GB and 16GB Walkman E-Series will be priced at $80 and $100 respectively.
