Sony VPL-VW500ES projector offers 4K resolution with 1700 lumens

Sony has officially unveiled a new projectors today called the VPL-VW500ES. That projector boasts native 4K resolution and slips into Sony's lineup next to the VW1000ES, which was the world's first native 4K resolution projector. The VW500ES uses a DCI based 4096 x 2160 resolution promising the highest quality 4K content possible.

This projector uses Sony expertise that is integrated into its professional digital cinema market. The projector also supports HDMI 2.0 allowing it to accommodate 4K/60p content as well. The projector has an integrated 4K upscaler Sony calls Reality Creation. That upscale engine is able to dramatically enhance high-definition 1080p content.

That means viewers are able to enjoy 4k resolution content from their existing Blu-ray collection, even in 3-D. The brightness rating for the projector is 1700 ANSI lumens. The projector also boasts contrast ratio of 200,000:1. The color technology is Sony TRILUMINOS tech and the device has integrated auto calibration features.

Users can also resort to manual color correction tools to get the image quality perfectly balanced to their tastes. The projector is also fitted with a 2.06 zoom power plants with a wide shift range giving installers flexibility in placing the projector in the room. The projector also has an integrated RF transmitter. The projector will be available by the end of October at an undisclosed price.
