Sony Unveils New Bluetooth Headset for PS3, Now 30% Smaller

Playing a game online is fun for many reasons, and one of which is the ability to talk to other players around the world, as you try to come up with a strategy to defeat your opponents. Back in 2008, when Sony unveiled the official Bluetooth Headset for the PlayStation 3, people eagerly picked up the wireless headset. And now, as close in on the end of 2010, the company has officially unveiled the new official Bluetooth Headset for the PlayStation 3.

The new headset, interestingly enough, doesn't pack in the new features as many might expect. Instead, it features the same elements as the previous version: dual-microphones, automatic pairing with the PS3 thanks to the USB cable, a charging cradle, and an easily accessible mute button. There's also the in-game headset status indicator, too. The new official headset also features High Quality (HQ) mode, which will deliver crystal clear voice chat over the PS3.

But, there are some differences. Mainly, it comes in the redesign of the body. Sony says that the new headset is now 30% smaller than the previous iteration, and now features a far more sleek look. And, when you use the device with your PS3 or mobile phone, it now features noise cancellation. The new headset also features three-way calling support for mobile phones, as well as call waiting. You'll need PlayStation 3 software version 3.50 or higher to make the Bluetooth headset work, though. The new official Bluetooth headset will be made available in the coming weeks, and should retail for $49.99.
