In the ultimate show of maturity, Sony is once again going on the offensive, pointing out how their internal Blu-ray solution is “better” than Microsoft’s external HD-DVD soluion. Coming the day after we got our first solid details about Microsoft’s upcoming Xbox 360 add-on, as well as news of an update that will allow the 360 to play back 1080p video, Sony’s response comes off as a desperate attempt to save face in the wake of their PS3’s advantages slowly slipping away.

Xbox 360 w/ HD-DVD

Sony’s response is as follows:

“It’s unfortunate that Microsoft’s external HD-DVD drive will not enhance the experience at all for the gamer. Sony realizes that to truly take gaming into the next generation requires a larger data format for both games and movies. PS3 uses the Blu-ray format for gaming, giving developers 50 GB of high-definition storage on a single disc, while Microsoft’s 9 GB DVD gaming format is an obstacle for storing HD content. Furthermore, Microsoft’s announced HD games patch is really just a compatibility feature — upscaling lower-resolution content does not make it Full HD (1080p), something that PS3 can do out of the box.”

So which company’s HD solution will win out in the end? That’s up for you to decide for yourselves; however, my vote’s with Microsoft (ashamed as I am to say it); they simply aren’t shoving their HD solution down your throat. We’ll see what happens once both consoles hit the shelves.

Sony has always failed, need i mention beta max, mini disc, and now blueray, come on, some technology like BR May be better, but at what cost, dvd-hd supports 30GB, br supports 50GB, hey… what difference does it make, name me 1 game, just one game, that requires more than 8GB of storage. BR technolgy is too much, too soon, and im sorry sony, your going down, once again.

Not to mention the PSP UMD format… Sony’s track record with new formats isn’t very good at all!

True, this is a ever ending list of failures.

Microsoft opened the doors to the world of online gaming, not PS3, infact, the xbox was the 1st ever console that came with a hard drive, the ps2 could have, only they wanted you to pay.

Now the PS3, to have a full package, you spend £100’s just for an extra 20gig, one question, since when ddo you need more than 1 gig for games.

Ive lots of games for my 360, and they dont use no more than 100mb.

PS3 looks to be just another waste of money.
