Sony to add uncompressed 14-bit RAW image capability to a7S II

Sony has a new higher-end digital camera that is due to land in stores next month called the a7S II. The a7S II is a mirrorless digital camera that is packed with some interesting features and a correspondingly high price. Sony has announced that it will be adding in another cool feature to the camera after it lands via a firmware update.

That new feature will be the ability to shoot 14-bit RAM image files. Sony also plans to add user selectable compressed or uncompressed 14-bit RAM still image capture to other cameras via a firmware update. The a7R II will also get the firmware update at a later date.

Currently the a7S II and a7R II are compatible with 63 different a-mount lenses; Sony will add 8 new lenses to its FE full frame lens line by early 2016. If you missed the details on the a7S II mirrorless digital camera when it launched, it is a 12.2MP full-frame camera with an Exmor CMOS sensor.

It can record 4K video and has 5-axis SteadyShot INSIDE stabilization. The rear LCD is 3-inches and it can shoot at up to 5 fps continuous. Pricing is right under $3,000 for the body only. Sony says the camera will be available in October, one retailer lists the camera as available to purchase on September 17; that September date may be when pre-orders kick off.
