For those of us still without a computer with a DVD burner, or those of us who just want to plug in our camcorder and record DVDs directly, Sony has the answer for you. Say hello to the VRD-MC3 and the VDR-VC30, two new DVDirect recorders from Sony which allow computer-less syncing with hard drive-based Sony Handycams. Both units boast an impressive array of features, including a wide array of supported disc and memory card formats.
Both models incorporate 16x DVD burning on either DVD±R discs, 8x burning for DVD-R DL/DVD+R DL/+RW discs, 6x burning for DVD-RWs, 40x burning for CD-Rs and 24x burning for CD-RWs. For connectivity, both models feature USB 2.0, Firewire, S-video, and composite video inputs, allowing you to hook your DVDirect to most any device you want. The VDR-MC3 (shown above) also features a 2.5-inch color LCD, digital photo capabilities, and support for Memory Stick/Memory Stick Duo storage media, Compact Flash, Secure Digital (SD), and xD cards. Look for these two new devices to hit shelves in October for $250 (VRD-MC3) and $200 (VRD-VC30).
