Sony has revealed the latest in the Alpha line of DSLRs, the A200, at CES 2008. The ten megapixel APS size CCD has higher sensitivity, faster AF, a larger LCD screen compared to the previous model, the A100. Like all Alpha, the A200 has an In-Body Super SteadyShot® image stabilization to allow shooting in low light conditions: up to 3.5 stops advantage. The exposure meter is backed by Sony’s D-Range Optimizer (DRO) and has a fast 3 fps continued auto-focusing system at 1.7x, better than the last model, on top of a powerful BIONZ image processing engine to reduce noise.
The improved model now features a wider, 2.7 inch Clear Photo LCDTM screen with anti-reflection coating and glare-reducing layer for better and easier playback viewing. It also has improved predictive control performance; quieter shutter sound; automatic pop-up flash; and a battery life indicator that provides useful information when it comes to recharging. It’s compatible with all Minolta Maxxum® mount lenses, in addition to Sony a (alpha) lens lineup - including Carl Zeiss® lenses.
Sony will offer the A200 kit package with the 18-70 mm F3.5 - F5.6 lens for $700 and another with the 75-300 mm F4.5 - F5.6 lens for $900 coming this February. Pre-orders begin online on Jan. 7 at sonystyle
