What I think would make sense for a 2 is: capacitive touch screen, 2 analogs, internal memory and/or mem stick expansion, WLAN (n), BT, GPS, Accelerometer, compass, and optional WAN(4g would be nice).

Games should be on Memory Sticks AND digital download (not just the later). Optical drives (UMD) are slow and power consuming and i bet a MStick costs Sony less than $5 per GB.

Also they need to make the PSN more friendlier to kids. I tried to set up a PSP GO for a friend's kid to get some games with a prepaid voucher and couldn't do it, because an email was required plus many other info that the kid didn't have. The Nintendo DS is pretty much pick up and play.

what would give an edge or simply to match the DS: backward compatibility (with an optional external UMD drive)

It's about time if this pans out. As much as I am excited about a 3D capable DS, I would be that much more pumped for a new PSP :D
