They mean it’s usually 5 years before a new console is announced. At the 5 year mark after PS1, PS2 was announced and teased. The following year, it (PS2) came out. Same with the PS3. This is the first time that it’s been 6+ years and no official announcement of a next-gen console has been announced by a major company other than Nintendo, who is sticking to the 5-year-then-announce-new-console schedule.

Sony should put Andrew House in charge of the company based on this comment alone! He is spot on! Maybe Sony wouldn’t be up shit creek financially if their management had this thinking! Instead of saturating a market for shares sake with a hundred different types of the same thing, make 1 thing really phuking awesome! The Playstation I think is the only profitable thing Sony have for itself atm… I hate Apple but they have hit this idea on the nail!! And are trolling there way to the bank!!!

The ps1 was out for 6 years before the ps2. The ps2 was out for 6 years before the ps3…. so how is this for the first time ever?

Also lets face it unless there is a significant advancement in technology why (other than bragging rights) would most consumers pay full console price for a minor refresh, and if they really want to the PS3 slim is only 3 years old.

Other media file format support would be nice. As well the ability to navigate a Network share because lets face it using Media servers are rather retarded and simply limiting as heck. My 99 Dollar WD Live has no issues doing that nor supporting nearly every file format available. The only thing it doesn’t do is Blu-ray player and games, which the PS3 does wonderfully.
Sure some will argue that other file formats are what only pirates use or maybe people that know how to truely rip their content for maximum content. The days of inserting a disc to watch content are numbered. Disk drive space is cheap and the technology is there so why not get with it Sony? I want my PS3 to do a few more things.

They are already in the 6 year of PS3. I think they are just waiting to see what the competition has up their sleeves and for parts to become cheaper so they can sell it at a profit.

Shouldn’t come as a surprise since Sony has stated that the PS3 will have 10 year life cycle.
