the cell was brilliant for its time, and is still quite nice today.
unfortunately, the RSX is showng its age quite badly. that combined with the laughable amount of RAM in the machine (yes, i realize how fast it is clocked, but it starves easily given the transfer speeds off of the bluray and hdd) means sony needs a ps4 on the horizon.
it may be sufficient to just take a ps3, toss a second cell on board, increase the RAM to something in the multi-gig range, and then replace the rsx with something ulta modern.
i'd buy that.
saying they don't need one is just wrong. the ps struggles with gaming at 60 fps at 1080p. that is enough reason for them to look at a future toy.

I'm just hoping that it provides a lot more hackability then PS3. Their phones are unlocked with released sourcecode so I guess that they should be a little more eager to support the community by now.

It is true that the PS3 is more powerful than the wii and the Xbox 360, but the difference between the Xbox 360 and the PS3 is almost negligible. The new Wii U which rumor has said will be about 8X stronger than the PS3 and Xbox 360, will then be substantially weaker than the pS4 and Xbox 720. Your idea that the Xbox 720 will bring Microsoft to par with playstaion is flawed. The Xbox 720 without a doubt will be stronger than the PS3, but it may be very possible that the PS4 will be stronger than the Xbox 720. Although again rumor has said that the PS4 and xbox 720 may have the same GPU.

Sony doesn't need to release the PS4 any time soon. When they developed the PS3, it was already well overdeveloped for its time, So you could in essence say the PS3 WAS and IS the PS4. Sony knew what they were doing. When Microsoft and Nintendo develop their next consoles, they will only then be on par with what the PS3 is now. Think about it, the PS3 already has blu ray tech, 3d, playstation move, complete intrigration with smart apps and killer graphics. All it would take is a simple software update and it would then integrate the vita into gameplay to be used as a controller with a screen just like the Wii U and Sonys version will be better. So I say smart move Sony. Now you can sit back and enjoy pure profit while the others try top!ay catchup to what you have already accomplished almost 10 years ago.
