guys this is a rumor its not fact, Sony console will run used games dont worry, Microsoft console will too, this specifications are not 100% and No the PS orbis will not come to holidays in 2013 to that date sony will start probably to announce the console but not begin to sell it so for the users that have ps3 we are still going to enjoy it

Sony already denied not running physical games for its console it was a suggest only, but due to the negativism on the user they refused to take it for its next console so dont worry used games are still going to run out and i dont think Microsoft will do it other way they have confirmed their console reading some tipe of disk

Sorry. I don’t have thousands of dollars in my bank to just rue away. Or mommy and daddy to re buy all my games. Backward compatibility in a new playstation could be a very good selling point, as the new xbox would most likely not have it. If Sony wants to create the ultimate home gaming device, then they’ll want you to use it as much as possible. If they were able to make it completely backwards compatible with all PS brand games. Who wouldn’t want the new Playstation? Name one gamer who doesn’t have an extensive library of PS2 games. Exactly. If I was able to sit back and play all my old PS2 games on my new system then I would be more than happy to give Sony all my money.

For all that think that due to not having backwards compatibility and not having the ability to play used games is going to kill the industry and “flop like dreamcast” are complete idiots. I’m not saying that i’m for it or that it ins’t messed up and they shouldn’t do it because it affects the consumer. Sony is a business and from a business side of things its more money to them which is what is desired in a business. If your you complaining about BC then simply keep your system when the new one comes out to play your old games. Sony took away the ability to play PS2 games on the PS3 and made a ton of money off people still buying the PS2 system and selling the games on the PS store. Used games do help us as consumers buying something cheaper and the ability to save more money but all the people such as developers actually lose money. You buy a game for sixty dollars which gamestop is already making a profit off of. You trade it back in for 20 which they will sell between 40-50 which is now $30 more they are going to make. Now that other person will trade it back in for same as you or even less. The gets bought again. It can keep getting cycled over and over again. That first game that was bought new could through a lot of hands without any more money to the people who actually worked for it. Marvel 83 your a dumbass because your crying about BC and saying you dont mind paying an extra 100-200 to play your ps3 games on ps4 and don’t want to rebuy those games. The systems trade in worth less than that.

I care, unlike you I still play GTA: San Andreas (PS2), Bully (PS2), Bust A Groove (Rare PS1 game), and a few other games that have yet to be re-released. So I would like backwards capability for at least my PS3 games. Imagine if Apple told people their old iPad apps no longer worked with the “The New iPad” how people would react. So why let console companies get away with it? If I gotta keep my PS3 just to play my old games then I might as well wait until they stop making games before I upgrade to PS4 like a lot of people did when the PS3 came out, most of my friends and playstation users will still be on the PS3 because it has the bigger user base.

Who cares if if the PS4 is backwards compatible? I didn’t play PS2 games on my PS3 and I would not plan on playing PS3 games on my PS4. Keep your PS3 for your old games. This debate reminds me of people saying they won’t buy the next Call Of Duty yet each game sells more than the prior game.

This.specs if true are horrible is the equivalent of a really old computer. Maybe they will go the Nintendo route and release a reall weak system instead of setting a graphical standard. I guess they lost too much money with the Ps3 to afford going all high tech this gen.

The no backward compatibility is a bad idea in my opinion, why I didnt think it was a big deal with the PS3 not being compatible with PS2 games that opinion changed when I fancied a game of some of the classics, Sure theyre available on the PS store but for like 10 quid? Seriously? who in their right mind would pay that much for a ps2 game, Theyre even selling the ps1 titles for 7.99 (I got many of them for 50p each in a charity shop and they work)

Which brings me nicely to 2nd hand games, if you cant used preowned/preused games then that will be a killer for everyone but the truely gullible out there. Trading and swapping games with your mates has been a stable of gaming and gamers for years. As is the picking up that 2nd hand bargain of a game you never felt was ever worth full price. This ban on preowned will hurt the console makers and the game devs more than they’ll know!
No one likes bare faced cheek or greed!

You are the reason why companies do what they do. I am not re-buying all my old PS3 games AGAIN. 2013 would mean the PS3 is 7 years into its 10 year life span. With 62 million PS3′s still out there, do you know how hard it is going to be to convince people to buy the new system if they have to abandon their games or keep their old system. I don’t mind paying an extra $100 to $200 bucks so I can still play my old PS3 games on the PS4 because that is way cheaper than re-buying 30+ games.

These specs are pure speculation and rumor. This happens almost every time a new system is in development. Take, for example, the Wii U. about a year ago rumors were running wild that it would be more than twice the power of PS3 and 360; now the rumor is it’s weaker than both. Even if the alleged specs are factual I’m pretty sure they aren’t final. Wait for Sony to announce the official and final specs.

Couldn’t agree with you more. These online passes that companies like EA and THQ make mandatory is too much. I don’t really focus on graphics or online play. They focus on online play too much. I remember sitting on my PS1 playing games like Resident Evil, Silent Hill, MGS, Crash Bandicoot etc. They were games. I think I’m going to go with the Wii U.

I think both Sony and Microsoft are going to have the biggest flop systems since Sega Dreamcast because we will no longer be able to play used games. That means you can’t even barrow a game from a friend or rent a game to see if its worth buying. I haven’t even seen a demo of these systems and have decided I will skip this system and become a pc gamer for a while.

Greed killed the game console.

Keep your damn ps3 then. Its THAT SIMPLE. Whats the big deal of no backwards compatibility. PLUS Sony is probably going to put PS3 titles in PS Store when the PS4 or PS Orbis launches. It’s truely sad how much people complain about no backwards compatibility. Either just keep your ps3 or wait until the ps3 titles that you want arrive in PS Store when the ps4 hits stores.

People are making a fuss over backward compatibility and are not thinking outside the box for a minute. Since PS3 users has the ability to download and buy games online, even buy and download PS one and PS2 classic games, then i would imagine that Sony would convert their games or make them available for purchase online. I guess Sony with Orbis if that is what they are going to call it, want to move its customers to buy their new console’s games online, although, with the hack of Sony Network in 2011 I doubt that people will be racing to buy games from Sony online. However, Sony has bought and partnered with security companies to strengthen their systems and networks. Anyway, i think PS4 would be a better name to me than Orbis, and i am going to be the first one to pre-order it or buy when it comes out :P

Let’s just hope that it will be a killer console with great games, because that’s what is important, i do not give a damn about the specs of the console as long as they use the full potential to release killer games for us users.

it cant really be compatible with ps3 games. Sony made a proprietary API or something that made it much harder for devs to make games for the PS3. Since the PS4 is moving away from this there no way it will be able to play them without and emulator of some kind.

It’s a completely different platform, the only way they could play PS3 games without porting would be through emulation.

Though being basically PC hardware means it’s more likely to be hackable and users could potentially run anything they want on it as long as the BIOS isn’t locked or is at least unlockable but again, being a PC means it’ll be more likely someone figures a way around any block as well… Though it may require some modding skills…

While the regular PC market may see more game ports from the consoles as a result…
