I cant see how a hack of the PS3 is going to "sink the ship" as the xbox 360 was hacked so long ago and it still seems to be going very strong.

New big budget games for the PS3 are still looking better and better, year by year. As long as a continuous curve like this is held why bring out a new console ? New games looking better is all a new console would achieve, as long as the PS3 is already delivering on this there is no good reason to put it out to pasture.

Well. The ten year lifecycle? Look at the ps2, released in 2000 and still lives on (barely). I think we will see a new ps4 in stores for christmas 2012. And an even smaller ps3 will live on just as the ps2 today. As another commenter noted, the handheld graphics is getting closer by the day.

They have no intentions of releasing PS4 as a console in the traditional sense. They are delaying everything until they can figure out how to deal with cloud services like OnLive & Playcast.

Meanwhile PS3 is a dead platform. The hack means Sony's model is sinking and at the same time they are really turning PS3 users off with all this constant updates and "change of rules" in terms & conditions whenever it suits them. Everyone is now talking about us not having any rights if we use Sony hardware or services... Trust is sinking fast!

PSP users have been screwed over with no support for UMD and no way of getting their games to play on "download-only" consoles like PSP Go or the new PSP2. If Sony was any kind of stand-up company they would allow UMD games & Movies to attract a download credit to be used on other Sony products ... But no.

PS2 users have been screwed over having to re-buy their games if they want to play on PS3... Nah. Sony has really shot themselves. There are better delivery systems (like Steam) that are working hard to build trust along with a growing user base. Sony is pretty much irrelevant and PS4 is no longer necessary.

If Playstation 4 is delayed, then so will the Next Xbox, simply because the X360 is too cheap for M$ to manufacture, so they will see no point bringing a new console when Sony isn't doing it.

End result?

1. Game developers get fed up of the already pathetic consoles and switch over to PC for good(of course DRM ahoy!)

2. They stick to consoles and helce 5 year old OpenGL and DX9 standard(even older) and we PC gamers continue to suffer.

I will not, i repeat, NOT BUY A CONSOLE...

Those who say fps on consoles rock, drop dead.

there is no way that they can honestly believe that a hand held will be able to surpass what a home console can do… The Playstation 4 has been rumored and pushed back a couple of times, I have been following along closely at http://sonyps4.com/ its amazing how many concept designs and such have been submitted to them… there is also a survey asking gamers when they expect the Playstation 4 and most think it will be announced in 2012

No..............

This article is all "Oh lets pretend we're ignorant".

See how the PS2 is still selling?

The PS3 will still be continuing its life when the PS4 is out.

I agree with Sony. The PS3 is an excellent, viable platform that doesn't need to be supplanted by a next-gen device for a few years to come. What Sony needs to do is follow through with BANNING modders PERMANENTLY. I don't appreciate MY online gaming experience negatively impacted by CHEATING SLACKERS.
