Sony PlayMemories Studio for PS3 gets 4K TV support

Sony has updated its PlayMemories Studio app for PlayStation 3, adding 4K support for super-high-resolution TVs. The new app, v2.0, is a $15 download for the console, and supports image display at up to four times the resolution – assuming you have the TV to show them on – in addition to new editing features and fresh integration with Sony's cloud storage system for photos and video.

If you've got a PlayMemories Online account for storing your multimedia in the cloud, PlayMemories Studio can now access that content and include it in your edits. That's in addition to the original local content support, which can be saved to your PS3's drive or stored on a USB stick or removable HDD.

The new version also allows for archiving photos and videos in 720p HD resolution. There are ten new background music tracks to choose between, along with 29 new sound effects.

Those buying a new Sony digital camera or camcorder will get a free copy of PlayMemories Studio, as will PlayStation Plus subscribers. Everyone else gets a 30-day trial, after which they'll have to buy the app from the PlayStation Store.
