If you aren’t impressed with the pixels count on compact size digital cameras announced at CES 2008, Sony just unveils a powerhouse 13.6 megapixel that raises eyebrows. The slim and sleek Cyber-shot DCS W300 is Sony greatest yet Cybershot announced to date. It has the physically toughness and advanced features normally found on higher end model.
The stylish W300 is scratch-resistant with titanium coating, about five times tougher than anodized aluminum for better protection. The 13.6 megapixel uses 1/1.7-inch Super HAD CCD sensor that pushes light sensibility up to ISO 6400. Low light shooter can take advantage that extra stop of light combines with Sony’s Super SteadyShot Optical image stabilizer for varies application – indoor or outdoor in challenging lighting conditions.
The optical path uses Carl Zeiss Vario-Tessar 3x optical zoom lens with ranges of 35-105mm (35mm equiv.) and has a large 2.7-inch LCD display for playing back captured media files as well as navigating the camera.
As a flagship model, the W300 packs in up-to-dated features like D-Range Optimizer, Intelligent Scene Recognition, Smile Shutter, movie capture mode, and high speed burse mode with ability to capture 5fps at 3 megapixel of resolution.
The camera runs on Lithium-ion battery, has a rather stingy 15MB internal memory and supports MS Duo/Pro Duo memory storage. The DSC-W300 will be available in May for about $350.
