I've been a Minidisc user in the past, with a huge box in the garage full of discs and my Sharp portable recorder; the Kenwood home deck has continued to be connected to the stereo but I hadn't spun it up in a couple of years. I kept the home deck there because I always intended to drag out those discs and listen to them again. Then, out of the blue and unexplainable I picked up a Sony MZ-N505 on eBay for $13.50. Dragged out my discs and was amazed at the 50+ hours of playback time I could get off of this marvel with a single AA battery (my Sharp in comparison can't run more than 5 hours with the extended battery pack attached). I picked up an even nicer portable recorder along with 33 blanks for $26 a couple of weeks later. Next, in my "OMG moment, I better stop" - I picked up an unused Sony Minidisc Bundle 6 (home deck and portable player) for $51. I've been recording new stuff lately as well, remembering how easy and fun it was to edit discs. eBay and Minidiscs are an interesting place to check out, very few of the prices are like the deals that I got above. There appears to be a small collectors market out there with people paying upwards of $80 for a single pre-recorded title, blanks with colored shells are also popular items. All of this interest for me is more about simplicity. Yes, I have a smartphone that has the capability of holding thousands of songs, but none of that can compare with a collection of songs that you very carefully pieced together yourself - and not getting overwhelmed with how many things to choose from. Oh yeah, my smartphone makes for a horrible field recorder (it really stinks when someone decides to call you when you are trying to make a special recording). So, maybe this is me in mid-life trying to re-discover part of my youth. There never was anything wrong with the MD format post-1997 when ATRAC caught up with the high fidelity demands of users, it just got lost in the shuffle of MP3's and iDevices. BTW, I have a box of cassettes in the garage with a [very nice] home deck still connected to the stereo, but I don't think I'll be going on a cassette renaissance any time in the future.

I paid $32.67 for a XBOX 360 and my mom got a 17 inch Toshiba laptop for $94.83 being delivered to our house tomorrow by FedEX. I will never again pay expensive retail prices at stores. I even sold a 46 inch HDTV to my boss for $650 and it only cost me $52.78 to get. Here is the website we using to get all this stuff, LiveCent.com
