If plasma isn’t your preference, then how about Sony’s 9.9mm LCD HDTV. The KDL-40ZX1 is 40-inches of LED-backlit super-skinny, with a 3,000:1 contrast ratio, 120Hz MotionFlow, x.v.Color and Sony’s BRAVIA Engine 2 image processing. Best of all, this is no concept - it goes on sale in Japan on November 10th.
As with other displays aiming to be the thinnest, Sony relegates all but a single HDMI port to the base station. That adds a further bevy of HDMI, Component and USB inputs, together with the possibility of wireless HD (albeit limited to 1080i, not 1080p) courtesy of Sony’s DMX-WL1T Bravia Internet Link system.
The KDL-40ZX1 also has AcTVila video on-demand (in Japan, of course) and DLNA support, together with the XMB GUI. It won’t be cheap, but it’s also not quite as disembowelling as you might have expected: 490,000 yen ($4,474) when it hits slender Japanese shelves on November 10th.
