Apparently Target Technologies has held a patent since June of 1998 regarding the use of metal alloys in the reflective layer of an optical storage disk. If their claims hold up, then it sounds like Sony is in for a bumpy ride.

What is interesting is that Sony actually references one of Target Technologies patent on one of their own optical disk patents. If the lawsuit holds up, Sony could face charges of willful infringement.
