Sony Ericsson to upgrade 2011 smartphones to Android 4.0 next year

Sony Ericsson fans can rest easy knowing that if they are rocking a 2011 Android phone model from the company they will get Android 4.0. Most of the devices are on Android 2.3.4 right now and starting next year the line will be upgraded to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. Sony Ericsson offers no definitive time frame for the upgrade, just the vague "2012" date.

SE isn't the only firm looking to upgrade smartphones launched this year to ICS. Motorola has announced that the Droid RAZR will also get the upgrade to Android 4.0 early next year. The RAZR is launching with Honeycomb onboard. I would wager if Motorola were planning an early 2012 upgrade SE will be as well. The tip comes from Facebook.

Sony Ericsson Netherlands posted to its Facebook page that the upgrade would be happening and pointed readers to its official blog to wait for more details in the coming weeks and months. The photo you see here is the Facebook post. The translated post reads:

We are planning our 2011 Xperia smartphone portfolio after Gingerbread 2.3.4. upgrade to the next Android platform. The official Sony Ericsson communication about software upgrades will always be my international colleagues publish on our Blog: http://blogs.sonyericsson.com/
