I am sure that I am not the only one to notice that the better the screens get on mobile devices, the more annoying the fingerprints get. My old Moto V551, I could spit on it and rub it in dirt and still see well enough to use it, not literally, but close, my iPod Touch, a single fingerprint angers me.

Well, Sony Ericsson has the solution, belt driven automatic screen cleaners. Now all they need to do is figure out how to make it look good instead of kicking your brand new phone back into the Industrial Revolution.

The idea is to use a sliding cleaning device in conjunction with the slider style phones opening action, it starts at the top when the phone is closed, and then slides down as you open the device, and visa versa when you are closing it. But the flip phone with the conveyor belt on the side, so tacky, I’d rather have a robotic arm pop out and clean it, it would be equally gaudy, but at least it would be kind of cool.

Looking at the design it seems more like the flip phone one is designed to be integrated into the phones clamshell. From the outside you wouldn’t even see the belt, just that the cleaning arm would move up and down when you opened and closed the phone, same as for the slider model.
