But now that you bring it up, yes, Microsoft is having an extremely hard time selling Windows Phone to anyone outside of Corporate IT (i.e. Microsoft Solution Developers, et al).

Steve Ballmer admits this wholeheartedly and has done so several times saying that sales of Windows Phone has gone from “small to very small”.

That wasn’t really my point at all with my comment above but since you brought it up… right back at ya.

Hey, I’m sorry YOU didn’t like Android, I’m sure after drinking the Kool Aid given to you at a few Firestarters, User Groups and Code Camps you are now programmed to see Android as inferior and iPhone as the “fruit phone” that is outdated, old school and on it’s last let.

Yes, I’ve been to all those same Firestarters and User Groups, I know what Microsoft and it’s many MVPs and Evangelists teach at those.

From where I’m sitting, iPhone, Android, BlackBerry and Symbian are all still kicking Windows Phone but every day.

I really hate to break that to you but it is the truth.

What are you going to do about it?

Take this from a former Android user. It’s a slow, ugly, unintuitive, laggy, fragmented, malware-ridden piece of shit. It’s as bad as Windows Mobile. As for Windows Phone, with the Mango update, it wipes the floor with Android in terms of speed, smoothness, elegance, ease of use, etc.

To me, iOS and WP7.5 both offer a slicker experience over Android. That’s just my opinion, and it’s something I value as a customer. There are distinct merits to Android but none that entice me over the other two.

I’m also a user of Linux on computers, but I still don’t believe they present the sheen of Windows or Mac OS. Not even Ubuntu. The customer, ultimately, doesn’t care about platform flexibility other than whether a device does what they want.
Good for Kindle Fire et al. but I’m only worried about a good phone here, and as I said Nordberg misjudged the iPhone and while he might not be wrong again, I think it’s short-sighted to dismiss WP7.5 and the unity Windows 8 will offer.

Remember though, it is probably best not to reply to one comment and expect someone that posted a different comment to look for and even see your reply to someone else’s comment and assume “oh, that was for me as well”.

Tell me how Windows Phone could have been used to create Sony’s Plastation Gaming Phone, Xperia?

Tell me how Windows Phone could have been used to create Amazon’s Kindle Fire? Keep in mind, the Kindle is using an older Android Phone based version and not the newer Tablet version of Android so yes, we are talking Apple’s to Apples.

How can handset makers capitalize on their own “brand” with Windows Phone other than physical designs? How can they modify the Windows Phone Platform to be different enough that they can market it better than the next guy?

I think you know the answer and in the case of Sony, they made the right decision and they are correct in stating that Windows Phone as it exists today is subpar and not optimal to provide the basis of a truly revolutionary device.

Before you try to figure that out this is a trick question, it can’t. The standards, specifications and requirements all handset manufactures working with the Windows Phone Platform have to adhere to simply would NOT allow them to create such unique devices as the Kindle Fire or Sony’s Xperia Gamer’s Phone.

Sony made the right decision and no matter how much you or your Microsoft Solution Developer circles love the Windows Phone, you can try until you turn blue but you can’t legally produce anything with the Windows Phone Platform other than what Microsoft wants you to. Heck, as a Developer you can’t even use Native Coding to compete in the Marketplace unless you sign your life away to Microsoft and become one of an elite group of “Partners”.

There is no way around it, Windows Phone is just subpar in the areas that Sony needed to do what they do. Android works for them and so many more.

End of story.

3dtv pipedream? I only hear that from folks who bought their tv one year early…

32″ 3dtv at walmart $400 with two pair of glasses says that pipe must be a telescope pointed from the moon towards earth because mass-adoption is underway.

Says the company who’s parent not only well known for muscling it’s own ‘new technology’ into marketplaces (Betamax, MiniDisc, Blu-Ray), but is heavily investing (once again) in the pipe-dream that is 3DTV in the home.
