It’s been a few days since the scales have been tipped in the next-gen disk format wars, so it’s about time for something new to happen. The latest move is by Sony, they will be shipping their BDP-S300 Blu-ray player this week with a lower price tag than expected.

Blu-ray

When it was announced, the BDP-S300 carried a price tag of $599, however, Sony has just surprised us by lowering the price to $499. That’s half the cost of their first Blu-ray player launched six months ago. We’ve heard stories that the cost to make Blu-ray players has gone down, so it’s good to see that Sony passing that savings on to the consumer.

They are still behind HD-DVD in price, Toshiba HD-DVD players can be found for under $300. I’m still waiting to see if the cost of Blu-ray player production will have any effect on the price of the PS3.
