Sony debuts new AV receiver for multi-room content

Sony is a big name in the consumer electronics industry and makes some great HDTVs, receivers, and Blu-ray players. Sony has unveiled a new AV receiver designed to help users get HD video and content throughout the home. The new receiver is the STR-DA5500ES.

The STR-DA5500ES receiver has the capability of full IP network control allowing custom installers to integrate it into Control4 home automation systems. The receiver also supports Control4 IP network applications for configuration and diagnostic tools allowing the system to send email and text alerts.

The receiver also features Sony's HD Digital Cinema Sound technology to replicate the sound quality and acoustics of a theater in the home. The receiver has a 120w amp and sports six HDMI inputs with five on the rear on one on the front with two HDMI outputs. Ethernet connectivity allows the receiver to receive firmware updates and access music services like Rhapsody. The receiver will ship next month for abut $2000.
