We all know by now that Microsoft is bringing out a 60GB version of the Xbox 360 Pro at the same price point as the 20GB model was sitting at. Sony has also decided to up the storage capacity on their “Core Pack,” bringing it to 80GB.

80GBPS3 159276

This new SKU will remain identical to the current 40GB model, with the DualShock 3 controller in-box. From the sound of things, it seems that Sony will be scrapping the 40GB model, leaving us with just a single PS3 SKU.

I guess that I’m a bit underwhelmed by this announcement. Sure, more storage is great and all, but with the PS3, it’s not really that big of a deal. If you need more storage, just by a cheap hard drive and install it yourself. I think that many people were really hoping to hear some good news on the backwards compatibility front. Maybe next year folks.
