They’re complaining about that now, sure, but I’m explaining why Google has a reason to fight this without “supporting piracy”. Google is always under fire for their fair use of others’ copyrighted works, like companies trying to get them to remove Google Image Search results or showing pages from books.

And Google should provide links to pirated software. That’s their job. Helping people find what they’re looking for in a neutral, unbiased way. Discriminating against some sites would conflict with their mission.

Remember, Google is used around the world, and America’s government-granted monopolies on making copies of things aren’t valid in every part of the world. If you’re violating your local law by downloading something, you’re at fault, not the person who told you how to get it.

What they don’t like about Google is the content it retrieves. Google is known as a “resource” for finding pirated software. You look at a forum and ask, “Where can I download games?” the people on the forum say one thing, “Google it.” That’s one thing SOPA is angry with Google about. I do not support SOPA at all, but in order to protest it intelligently, it’s good to know what exactly SOPA is against.

Google is a site that makes copies of every other site on the internet in order to help you find stuff. This copying is a Fair Use, but the media companies hate fair use and the public domain, and would love to make Google pay every time they index a site. Google has been in a constant battle with the copyright trolls since the beginning of time. Trying to claim they are only against SOPA because they benefit from piracy is stupid.

You don’t know what you’re talking about. You’re thinking of Anon as a collective. Anonymous isn’t a club. Anonymous doesn’t have goals. Anonymous is just a term to describe someone remaining unidentified on the internet. Not all anonymous members of the internet identify with each other, and you can’t label the actions of one anon as the intents of all anons. Anonymous hasn’t changed. All it was was a term to describe someone who is unidentified, and today that’s what it still is.

The best way to view anonymous is as a political group that has no predetermined objectives or opinions, and it’s only requirement is that all member be unidentifiable, and referred to as anonymous.

I don’t have a problem with you calling Anonymous a bunch of pussies.I just think it shows that you haven’t given your belief much though, so it should be discredited.

Ouch, a threat. Anything online is venerable these days. How bout taking the whole supporter of SOPA down lol. Viacom, Time Warner, and Universal has been going for this for years but no-one really stand up to them. The best thing we the people can do is not support anything related to those companies who supported SOPA. I stop using my Visa and Master card in favor Paypal.

We do care. I know more about what’s going on in the world and politics than most adults I know do. I watch the news while geting ready for school and check it on Ipod often. It’s our future so we should care. Plus on a side note I know more about gaming news than all the people in my local game shops(gamestation and an independant store)

I’m glad they are not supporting it but Anonymous has become nothing but bullies and annoying ones at that.
They obviously don’t care about all the other companies and are singling out Sony as usual.
Guess they are too afraid to take on Bill Gates and Microsoft, the pansies.
They’d rather pick on the companies they dislike and of course threaten the little people like me.

Google, eBay, Twitter, and PayPal are not philanthropic platforms. Useful, yes, but it’s undeniable that they’re making a significant amount of money for their own companies by serving advertisements on piracy websites or taking commissions on the sale of pirated products. SOPA is badly written and over-reaching, and I cannot support it in its current form, but we need to recall that the companies coming out AGAINST SOPA have as much of a financial horse in this race as do big media conglomerates (as well as the much smaller publishers and music labels that can barely stay afloat, let alone fund a huge legal department to fight piracy.)

Yes, but only in public support of it. This doesn’t mean at all that they actually do not support it.

On another note, I was eavesdropping on a 13 or 14 year old kid arguing to some 40-something guy why this was such a bad idea while at Gamestop yesterday, and was proud that youth are actually concerned with what is going on in the world.
