As I’m driving to work, sometimes I worry that my car will break down and I’ll be stranded at the side of the road with only my passengers to eat until the rescue services find me.  It’s not so much the cannibalism that concerns me, it’s the fact that I’d have to eat them raw – not a very hygienic solution, as I’m sure you’d agree if you saw the people I sometimes have riding with me.  But now my worries have been swept aside, thanks to this portable solar cooker from Argentinian company BCKSolar.

Splaying out reflective panels, the central flask is heated up to 90 degrees centigrade, suitable for cooking rice, pasta, soup, eggs or the carved-out spleen of a loved-one.  The core section is double-wall insulated like a thermos flask, so it will keep your meal warm in-between feasting, and also serves as a transportation container should you want to bring, say, a pottage made from the fingers and ears of small children from home.

Sadly it’s just a prototype at the moment, and the designers are seeking production backing.
