Soda drinking video game leads to creation of real-life soda

There's only video game in existence that offers players a chance to practice and hone their soda drinking skills in a safe, virtual environment, and that's Soda Drinker Pro. The indie game, currently available on Steam Greenlight, was created by developer Will Brierly in a single day back in 2008, and gave players the opportunity to experience drinking a soda in crudely rendered sunny beaches and outer space. But with some seven years since release, Soda Drinker Pro feels it's time players begin testing their soda drinking skills in the real world, and that requires a real-life soda made just for pros.

It's a good thing this is being announced in early March, as any closer to next month and this would surely be taken as an April Fools' prank. Soda Drinker Pro has collaborated with drink company Pure Sodaworks to make what they claim is a new type flavor of soda that hasn't existed before now. As this new beverage is tied to the game, they're calling Bonus Soda, named after the, errr, bonus sodas found lying around in the virtual drinking simulation.

Pure Sodaworks is known for their unique, and sometimes odd, flavor creations, including Apple Pie, Honey Lime, and Strawberry JalapeƱo, so coming up with a flavor that hasn't existed to this point was a challenge they were meant for. Soda Drinker Pro says their new drink hasn't been fully described yet, but is made with all-natural ingredients, free of preservatives and artificial coloring, as well as being gluten-free.

The Bonus Soda website is said to have details about availability soon, but for now is just a placeholder as the drink makes its debut at the PAX East convention this weekend. The beverage makers say the soda should be hitting stores in the near future, as well as being available for order on the forthcoming website.
