I seriously doubt Apple will kill off the Apple TV. I have been to multiple WWDC now and a long time ago all they talked for the entire week was their hardware and how to integrate it, the servers platform and security around the operating system. Fast forward and the last WWDC I did not even go to. They have shifted focus towards content distribution and making cool hardware that people want to put content on and take a 30% cut of all this content. It would be a huge shift from Apple to consider removing the Apple TV from it's product line. I can't see it dying if anything I can see it expanding into something else

I appreciate your perspective and I think you. I hope the designers at Apple read your thoughts and proceed carefully with their plans for the Apple TV. I believe Apple would demonstrate more sound business sense with greater benefit to the consumer by keeping ATV as the conduit for our other devices we are more intimate with (iPhone, laptop, iPad...) to allow us to more effectively port our work on these beloved portables to our TVs, projectors and monitors rather than making the ATV box more powerful. I want my iPhone in my hand to interact with--I don't want to interact with a black box under my TV. Looking to the future, I certainly don't want to have to buy a television set manufactured by Apple to enjoy what the ATV does. I want to be able to use any TV, or a projector, with the benefits of ATV. Adding Apple to the list of TV manufacturers will make a nice addition to the market and Apple always raises the bar--I do look forward to that. But I hope I still have my little ATV, in some form, to choose my screen, size and manufacturer and I do hope to use my iPhone, iPad or Air as a controller for HD games on my big-screen monitor. I think that's where Apple is headed and I really don't think Google is ever going to grasp, or take interest in, the benefits of working seamlessly with my other Apple products.

I may be in the minority on this one but I like the AppleTV just for what it is right now. For less than $100 per room, working with my MacMini as a HTPC and all our media in iTunes/iPhoto shared library, AppleTV is a brilliant tool. Screen savers set to PhotoStream and AirPlay mirroring with remote control via iPhone and iPad. I don't need MLB, WSJ, Netflix or Hulu...or AppleTV apps.
