Snowball pools all your messages into a universal inbox

There was a time when people had more than just one email account and needed a multi-account app to manage them all from a single place. Today, our messaging accounts have far surpassed our emails so we would need a similar setup to corral all of those lovely, and sometimes not so lovely, one liners into one app to rule them all. Enter Snowball, an Android app that's still in beta and already shows promise in keeping your social life a bit more organized.

Let's get this clear, Snowball isn't yet another messaging app or service. Just like the aforementioned e-mail client, what Snowball does is to pool together all those disparate services into a single inbox, letting you view them inside a single window and reply accordingly, using the same line on which the message was sent. Definitely faster and more convenient than rapidly switching back and forth between messaging apps, depending on who you're talking to.

When a new message arrives, Snowball will pop out a, well, snowball on top of your screen, ala floating Facebook Chat heads. Simply tap on that and the app will show you your inbox. You can reply right then and there to that message, without needing to go into the corresponding service's dedicated app. As for supported services, you've got the usual mix of the most popular ones, such as Facebook Messenger, WhatsApp, Snapchat, SMS, Hangouts, Twitter, Line, WeChat, and Slack, with more promised to come soon.

Sounds pretty nifty, right? Well, convenient as it may sound, be prepared for some growing pains if you do plan on switching to this new workflow. As anyone with multiple Twitter accounts on the same Twitter app might be able to tell you, it can get confusing and potentially embarrassing. If you're unused to this way of messaging, you could end up replying to the wrong person instead. If you have a very hectic social life, that could very well be a possibility. The other drawback is that Snowball is available only for Android. It's also currently in Beta and region locked for now, but hopefully those will soon change.
