I think they’d want to make a larger iPhone sooner than that. Looking at the way the market is headed, many expect large (approximately 5″) handsets to offer the best “compromise” between phone and tablet, relegating tablets to work environments and more niche tasks. Nobody wants to carry 2 devices (and in some cases, pay for 2 data plans) when they can do most daily tasks comfortable with one.

As much as I dislike Samsung (I dislike Apple too, btw), I will credit them for the whole “phablet” trend which has gone mainstream as of late.
I suspect that in a years time, with technologies like wifi-direct and mircast catching on, most manufactures will release ~5″ devices that can project thei image to 1080p televisions and run a desktop version of browsers other basic apps, with bluetooth taking care of keyboard and mouse connectivity.

I always hated that. I’ve personally always thought a device the size of an iPad should be a real computer not a big phone.

Why do you think large screen phones sell so well. You have always got your phone on you and with a large screen, there isn’t much point in lugging around a tablet just to surf the Web. Now that 5.5 inch + screens are common, people will ignore their tablets for the convenience of using their phone.
Prophecy- apple will make the iPhone with a larger screen within two years.
