SlashGear needs your help, people! We want to give you the finest news and reviews, and to do that we need to know what you enjoy reading about. Are you into cellphones, or does the latest in laptoppery float your boat? Is it GPS you hanker after, or would you rather read all about RC helicopters? And just so it’s fair, we’ll give someone the chance to win a fantastic Slingbox AV media streamer, courtesy of our beautiful friends at SlingMedia. Worth $180, the Slingbox AV will let you watch content from your cable, satellite or PVR via the internet on any number of compatible devices.
Update: SlingMedia have kindly offered a Slingbox Tuner as well, so we now have two prizes to give away.

Entering is super-simple. All you have to do is leave a comment to this post, making a suggestion of what you’d like to see SlashGear review. You can make as many suggestions as you like, but you’ll only get one entry. Closing date is Midnight EST on Wednesday 28th November, at which point one commenter will be picked at random to win the Slingbox AV and one to win the Slingbox Tuner. Since we’ll be contacting the lucky winner via email, please check to make sure you’ve typed it correctly; if we can’t get in touch with you then we’ll give the prize to some stray cats to cheer them up. Sadly this is open to US residents only, as the Slingboxes we have are the US models.
SlingMedia will ship the Slingbox AV and Slingbox Tuner directly to the winners of this giveaway.
Good luck!

DARE TO COMPARE! Devices are beoming very common. You should have a means to compare devices so that we can decide where we spend those dollars we don’t have.
NeutralPatrick Santry November 24, 2006
I always like side by side comparisens of products. PVR is always a good one, and UMPCs.
NeutralRob W November 24, 2006
I would like to see a review of PnP devices and software that can integrate into a seamless home entertainment center. Similar to what MS is doing with MCE and XBox.
NeutralRob W November 24, 2006
Student Tech Reivews on products and software that are designed to help the student become more organized and efficient while being able to multi task school, work and socia life…”welcome to the social?” Okay so the Zune needs a bit more work and there aren’t any professors podcasting with the Zune in mind, but you get the point.

electro^plankton, this can get really expensive. Most vendors don’t like to ship out such expensive products for review – not to mention shipping charges.

I keep looking for information comparing current gadgets to what’s on the horizon — i.e., at what point has something become “good enough” that I should dip into my toy budget rather than waiting for the next version lurking over the horizon?

I would like to see the reviews of the newest bleeding edge cell phones that are availible in europe or asia, but could be used here in the states. We see many of them out there, but would be nice to have some local (meaning US) input.
NeutralMelissa November 25, 2006
Especially handy at this time of the year are the oddball gadgets that you often see in the holiday gift guides. WIRED magazine had a picture of a portable tripod that was adjustable and looked like it was made from rubber. Cool idea but does it really work in the real world? Sharper Image was pushing these keychain digital picture viewers but I wonder how easy is it to use. Can Grandma do it on her own? Do you need a photo editor to get the dimensions right? It’s hard to tell from a picture and the back of a box how good this stuff is.
NeutralDavid Gray November 25, 2006
I would like to see more comparative reviews of cell phones and Tablet pcs. There are a ton of new products out there lately, a ton of good reviews of individual products, but the reviewers all seem to spend more time on what it was like to open the packaging or how it felt in their hands and then they speed dial past all the specifications and only rarely say if it is equal to or better than a very similar product—-or why. I’m not a complete idiot, but, when i’m trying to spend hard earned dollars i want a little more than another person’s preference. I want to know up front if what i plan on using this gizmo for is really going to require a dual processor, and exactly what that will do for me. If i don’t really need that, then i could spend more money on one with more RAM or ROM or a kitchen sink for it. Know what i mean??
NeutralVincent Nguyen November 25, 2006
Very good points David – thanks!

Hi James, I’m not sure if you saw this review of the Samsung Q1 review – along with all the accessories.
http://www.slashgear.com/samsu.....041439.php
SlashGear is getting the Samsung Q1 very shortly along with the brand new 32Gb Solid State Drive from Samsung. So keep an eye out for the new review shortly. We’re planning on doing some benchmarking between the two devices since the Q1 runs Intel Celeron while the Q1b sports a cool Via Processor. The new SDD should rock.
Thanks for the suggestion.

I’m always recommending gadgets to friends and others. What would be helpful is to provide newbies various entry points to try new technology at “best buy / most bang for buck” recommendations. After reading a great camera review, not everybody can jump in with $1000 to start; maybe that means doing price bracket reviews that over time, give people a chance to upgrade as competence and personal budgets increase. Thanks!
NeutralVincent Nguyen November 26, 2006
Personal GPS devices are becoming very popular and one of my favorite! I’m on the road a lot and cannot live with out mine. I’m currently using the Torq N100 with built in GPS and running ALK CoPilot Live 6. Awesome combination. Here’s the link to the review in case you hadn’t seen it yet.

Here’s an interesting post by Scott Ard of CNET with an example of how he use the SlingBox to stream videos to his BlackJack phone:
“Here’s how it works: I hooked up a Slingbox A/V to my Dish Network VIP 622 HD DVR. Installing SlingPlayer Mobile on the BlackJack was very simple, as was accessing the Dish box.”

Hey,
I would like to see more articles about future technology (I mean, not what will be launched next year, but a a truly leap in how technology is considered) like the reserch that some labs are doing in Nanotechnology about Nano mechanical, chemical, biochemical Computers and, of course quantum computers.
I believe that the future will be center in that technology and what the experts say about the first devices for medical, security (like cryptanalisys), storage, etc.
Hope you like the challenge.

I would like to see a review of a hypothetical mix of products: old and new.
For example, how about a hypothetical review of a logitech io (old) mated with Samsung’s new 1.8mm thick screen (new) on its handle? How would that change the product?
Or how about the timeless Palm Vx (old) combined with the motion sensing electronics of the Wii controller (new)? How would that change the UI?
Just an idea, though it is a little strange…
