SlashGear Week in Review - Week 3 2010

We are now three weeks into 2010, hope it's going well for you so far. It's time for another week in review. Last week wasn't as busy as CES week, but there was lots of cool new stuff that broke cover. The new Lenovo Lephone was spied in pics last week. The thing has a weird looking keyboard with a circle motif; I hope it works as good as it looks.

A security flaw in the Droid from Motorola has been unveiled. The password screen can be bypassed by simply hitting the back button. D'oh. A sweet and very small mainboard tipped up this week called the congatec BM57 that packs a Core i7 CPU and can support up to 8GB of RAM. This would make a sick HTPC that has the power to play games and run apps that need processing power.

More 4th generation iPhone rumors surfaced this week that the new device is coming this April. The machine is said to have an OLED screen, a dual-core CPU, and a removable battery. I'll believe the removable battery when I see it. If you are keen to take advantage of the slew of new USB 3.0 accessories that were seen at CES, but your notebook or desktop lacks USB 3.0 you can get an ExpressCard or a PCIe card from Active Media for $35 for the PCIe card or $40 for the ExpressCard.

A new mobile phone concept tipped up this week that uses a fuel cell powered by sugary liquids like soft drinks. The concept was made for Nokia and looks pretty darn cool. A crazy iPod dock turned up this week called the iTamtam. The thing is a stool with speakers built-in and an iPod dock on the back. Only a matter of time before you sit on your iPod with this thing.

Ultrasone unveiled a new and very high-end set of headphones called the Edition 8. The headphones are jammed with high-end tech and carry a high-end price of nearly $1700. That sweet "stealthed support vessel" called the Ady Gil that started life as a trimaran powerboat sank this week. The boat collided with a whaling vessel and sank while being towed back to port.

The coolest thermostat in the history of thermostats turned up this week called the SilverSTAT 7. The thing is designed to interface with smart power meters to give the homeowner more control over how much power they use in the home. Netflix and Nintendo announced that Netflix streaming is headed to the Wii. The streaming service requires a disc to be installed to work.

Google is taking things to the limit with the Chinese government and has said that it plans to uncensor all searches on its Chinese search engine. Ironically the Google plans to uncensor searches were censored. More Apple iSlate rumors turned up this week claiming that the new slate will be an iPhone on steroids. The rumors also claim that the new iPhone OS 4.0 has been held up to preserve the secret of the tablet.

If you were wondering how popular that Google Nexus One smartphone was, reports claims that the device sold 20,000 units in the first week it was available. The statistics come from a company called Flurry. ATI has debuted a new budget video card called the Radeon HD 5670 that will sell for under $100. The card should be a great unit for budget gamers.

Even more rumors tipped up this week about the iPhone 4. The latest set claims the handset might have a touch sensitive case along the lines of the Magic Mouse. An Intel email was sent around to members of its Retail Edge program this week. The email offered two MacBooks for giveaway that sport an unannounced processor upgrade with the Intel Core i5 CPU inside.

Ultimate Ears unveiled a new set of professional in-ear monitors this week that each have six drivers inside called the 18 Pro. The monitors are not cheap though at $1350 per set not counting the custom fitting process costs. T-Mobile is finally ready to ship that myTouch 3G Fender Edition smartphone we first saw back in October. The device will ship on January 20 for $179.99 with a new contract.

Zagg announced this week that the interesting ZAGGbox media streamer is now available for pre-order. The device will sell for $799 to start with and will ship in Q2 2010. There you have week in review number three for 2010. Thanks for reading!
