I have this phone since July with additional handset and find them superb, voice quality is better then regular phones and they work flawlessly, my phone bills dropped from $100 to 20 a month calling Europe a lot and $30 a year for north american plan. Also when I call other people 0123456 is displayed on their call display. One negative is the size, as the phone is very tiny

I bought an voip841 at the beginning of the summer. One of the key selling points for me was that both Skype and Philips boasted that the phone supports "wideband calling", the term used to indicate the ability to utilize Skype's 16khz voice bandwidth.

While the phone is convenient and has many nice features, I have yet to get any "wideband" quality out of it. Calling from a windows PC with Skype to the phone, and 841-841 over optimum network conditions both used the G729 codec.

Maybe the author or somebody reading could comment or get a straight answer from Philips as to why we do not get wideband quality, as advertised?
