Yeah i do agree with this.

You also have to remember that Android is primarily built on Java that runs through Dalvik as opposed to iOS which is C++ and C# primarily that is directly compiled and executed. This leads to performance gains on iOS's side as it has less framework layers to run through.

But i do agree with your view that comparing home screen performance between iOS and Honeycomb is an unfair comparison as they are very different in what's going on. In Android the home screen is essentially an app in it's own right that provides views into all other applications via widgets and also shortcuts to start other apps etc. This kind of interface between apps is comparatively CPU intensive, Google actually say that on the dev site. The iOS home screen just seems to be an application that lists the apps in a static way over a static background which i'm guessing isn't going to be very CPU intensive.

@Abhijeet: I am not disputing the merit of either of these methods, i am simply saying it's a pretty unfair comparison to make in this way.

Very nice article, and unbiased which is very refreshing compared to some other sites. I like the 'is it better than an ipad?' section because you pretty much posited that it's a matter of opinion. The OS that fits you best is the OS you should go for in a product.

Thanks Chris.

Let's see.

iOS - Static icons on a static wallpaper and a semi-fake multi-tasking ability. Only the set of icons move when you swipe. Wallpaper stays still.

Android - Static wallpaper that still moves during swipes, animated widgets, realtime background multitasking, animated status bar.

So tell me, which scenario requires more gpu power to perform?

Just because iOS does a great job in cutting corners to achieve a speedy UI doesn't mean it's better. But people are superficial anyway.

You want no lag on Android? Sure, disable all animations and remove all widgets. Then tell me whether it still lags.

Have you even tried Android... ever?

How about actually trying the device in store before making such ridiculous comments? You're going to base your judgment on the videos of devices? Wow, so I guess you're really gullible to commercials then -- who needs hands on experience when you have flashy videos?

News flash: I've ACTUALLY USED a Xoom and it didn't lag at all. In fact, most reviewers compliment the Honeycomb tablets on their speed. (These are people who have played with the iPad 2 AND have actually used Honeycomb devices) Where are you coming up with your BS?

You've seen "all of the honeycomb videos"? Laughable.

Thoughts and assumptionsannot be based off of video are any device if you have never play with or have any personal experience with whatsoever. I love both my Android phones and honeycomb tablet but am i blinded by features that i can't see the issues? No, its personal preference and the issues i experience are very minor and as a person who has been in the mobile Indus try for years I say nothing is without flaws even apple cause if you look deep enough you will see a worm and apples rotting core.

"and i own none apple product"
So how are you qualified to judge? You don't own any Android devices* not any Apple devices.

And I would show my Nexus One that does not lag, but I don't believe we are in the same country or part of the world.

* Something in your comment tells me that you don't own any high-end Android devices either.

"I have seen all honeycomb device videos...."

Dude - thats the problem! Even ipad is lagging on videos. Videos like this have from 20-30fps and thats not enough to see moving tablet screen to another tablet screen smoothly. Try it in some shop with good quality honeycomb tablet and i think you will be pleasently surprise.

Is it better than the iPad? well, show me at least 1 android device, which homescreen do not lag? I have seen all honeycomb device videos, and they all lag even when use jsut homescreen. But ok, look at iPad, do not matter 1st or 2nd. tehy have lags rarely.
Android is worse in this matter, by laging almost always. But iPad with laggign rarely beats the crap out of google....

If from what i just wrote you think i am apple fan and that i own at least 1 its product, then you are wrong. I hate apple, and i own none apple product (never had owned any actualy). But still, if a phone or tablet to buy, apple keep many steps in front of google... far better choise...
