You don’t need to be an editing pro, or picture user.. cmon.. get real. Real picture manipulators are making money on el cheap machines not these things.. or they’d be broke! These machines, to be real, are for people with the cash to splash and have the cash, and thats all!

Er…that’s why pros use external thunderbolt drives for their content on a MBP….hardly ‘useless’ for content creation. As for overpriced…well it may be for you.

Worth mentioning:

“[I]f you create new iPad apps, and need to see them full-resolution in their entirety” – not really possible. The highest native resolution the Retina MBPs can run at is 1920 x 1200 – smaller than the iPad’s 2048 x 1536. Also, important to note that you can get the non-Retina MBPs in 1680 x 1050 ‘hi-res’.

It could be curious to see if the Retina MBP takes off or not. HP came out with an ultra-portable 15 inch computer which was (essinitally) a Retina MBP, 2 years ago. Quad core CPU, 1080p resolution (15 inch display), 16GB memory, 1GB graphics, etc….

If I recall correctly, it failed primary because people wanted the DVD drive.

But then again, what fails in the windows/pc world may take off big time in the Apple world.

Eh… The 15 vaio S isn’t all that great. No mssd (even for acceleration) battery life isn’t too good really, touchpad isn’t so good and they use a GT640 LE which is an underclocked GT640 while GT650 is the same card overclocked. Still the new MBP is overpriced and omission of a hard drive makes it useless for content creation.

I’ve been trying to get one. Got the money, got the motives but all the Apple stores say their stock of retina mbps are sold out! And apple online store only delivers it to me by mid July.

Sony Vaio S and Z series may be a good option to look at.

Sony Vaio Z starts at $1600. 1080p 13 inch display is standard. Up to Intel i7 quad core CPU’s, 8GB memory and 512GB SSD. Those who want ultimate portability (13 inch) and “grunt”, this is the machine.

Sony Vaio S series isn’t as extreme. they start at $800. 13 and 15 inch options. 1600×900 for the 13 inch and up to a 1080p in the 15 inch. hardware wise, up to intel i7 Quad, 12GB memory, up to 1TB platter/512GB SSD. These do come with DVD drives (up to blu-ray). weight wise, 3.69lbs for the 13 inch and 4.42 lbs for the 15 inch. (note: Sony’s 15 inch Vaio S weighs LESS than Apple’s MacBook Pro retina, and it’s packing a DVD drive, regular SATA harddrive and removable memory). These also have NIVIDA graphics as well. Battery life is around the same as the MacBook Pros. Reliability? On par, if not slightly better.

If the Pro is too expensive and the Air isn’t enough (grunt), these are great options.
