Skype and Paul McCartney designed 10 new Valentine's emojis

It's not everyday that an app's developers get to work with someone as big as Sir Paul McCartney, which is why when Microsoft's Skype got the opportunity, they didn't waste it. That's why, with Valentine's Day approaching, Skype users are getting 10 new love-themed "Mojis" featuring music from the legendary Beatles member himself. It's one of those things where you didn't realize how badly you needed it in your life until you heard about it.

Mojis are Skype's take on animated emoticons, complete with a few seconds of sound, which they debuted in their mobile and desktop apps last fall. The 10 new "Love Mojis" include a flirting banana, an excited octopus, and Cupid as a sumo wrestler, each with 5 seconds of original music/sound effects by McCartney.

While the partnership between Skype and Sir Paul may seem a bid odd — the musician even admitted it was a "strange proposition" — the company says McCartney was already a fan of the video calling/messaging service, and was excited to get involved. Likewise, McCartney shared that it was challenging to come up with tunes for the animations, but he was pleased in the end with what they came up with.

In the video below, Sir Paul shares a behind-the-scenes look at the creative process of coming up with music and sound effects.

The new Valentine's Day Mojis are free for all users, and debuting in the Skype apps today.
