Nikon D40’s is getting another friendly wide range zoom lens. Sigma announces a reduced size and lighter weight version of 18-200mm F3.5-F6.3 DC for Nikon. The additional built-in AF motor will grant the 18-200’s Nikon APS-C DSLR compatibility including D40/D40x. Unfortunately, Optical Stabilizer feature will be removed to shave 215g of weight and size reduction from 3.1”x3.9” to 2.8”x3.0” compare to existing version. The rest are pretty much similar to OS version except a slight increment of maximum magnification but 3 lens elements less. No mention of price and availability yet but we expect to see a much lower price compare to last model. A word of advice, avoid D40. You’ll get better choice of AF lens.

Sigma updates 18-200 to ‘D40-friendly’ status [via dpreview]
