Sigma announces DP2 large sensor compact and SD15 Digital SLR

Sigma has today announced the SD15 Digital SLR and DP2 compact digicam with 14 megapixel Foveon X3, APS-C sized sensor and newer true II image processor. The new SD15 is replacing 2-years old SD14 with a faster processor and 3" display. Updates are par at best, might well call it SD 14.2 like what Leica did with M8.2!

The new DP2 is not a replacement model for DP1 but closely related. It has a 2.5-inch LCD screen and a large sensor for a digicam. Compare to DP1, It now features a faster processor with 41mm at F2.8 lens instead of 28mm at F4.0. One stop of light faster but loses the wide-angle aspect. The introduction of new imaging engine: TRUE II suggested that both model will get better JPEG processing and probably faster operational speed.

Price and availability are to be announced for both units.
