Got a Sidekick LX 2009? Find it crashes, freezes, locks-up and generally misbehaves? Salvation could well be at hand, as a rumored OTA (over-the-air) update is in the offing; according to Hiptop3’s sources, the new firmware is currently being trialled by a small group of beta-testers, before the code is released to LX 2009 owners en masse.

There’s no clear indication of which issues have been addressed with the new firmware, but given freezing has been reported not only with the core device itself but in its social networking apps (such as the Twitter client) it seems reasonable to assume that it’s a relatively comprehensive overhaul. Any Sidekick LX 2009 users experiencing these problems? Let us know how you’re getting on with your phone in the comments.

I bought this phone almost a month-and-a-half ago and it’s been nothing but buggy from Day One. I don’t use Twitter, so it doesn’t bother me that the app crashes, but the Facebook and Blogger apps are completely worthless. The screen and keyboard both freeze, the camera crashes constantly, losing photos, being unable to take photos, and erasing the memory periodically. The phone will start ringing and the screen won’t turn on to show me who’s calling, and when I flip the screen, it stays black for a few seconds.
Just not their best effort, frankly. My 2008 was fantastic (for nearly a year, until the battery wouldn’t hold a charge for very long). I can’t stand touchscreens, so I went with this for the keyboard and T-Mobile’s decent plans. Now, I wish I’d gone elsewhere.
