we'll see kinect compatibility with the xbox 720 for sure. that would make the most sense, since that would allow hardcore gamers to continue their style of playing, while casual gamers could still always buy the kinect as an addon or buy the kinect-and-console bundle.
i dont care much for kinect, but if they do integrate it into the new console, i wouldn't really care..
as long as they still focus PRIMARILY on improving important things such as RAM and processing power, sure.. throw the kinect in there. idc

Kinect sports is fun. I also like what they're doing with ghost recon and forza, making it optional and an addition to the controller experience. Kind of like augmenting what we already have. I haven't played child of Eden yet but I'm intrigued.

It's also strangely satisfying to bark commands at my xbox w Netflix and make it pause/play.

Having said that, I would like to see more of an emphasis on getting xbox exclusives. Witcher 2 looks awesome (exclusive coz not on PS3) and is more than welcome but I'll take hardcore exclusives over kinect fodder anyday.

Kinect sports is fun. I also like what they’re doing with ghost recon and forza, making it optional and an addition to the controller experience. Kind of like augmenting what we already have. I haven’t played child of Eden yet but I’m intrigued.

It’s also strangely satisfying to bark commands at my xbox w Netflix and make it pause/play.

Dual core smart phones haven't been around a year. Soon, as in not now, they will be 1.5Ghz. 360: 3 cores 3.3Ghz. All technology improvements seem to be slowing down so I'd give it 4, 5 years.
The thing I'd like most in new gaming consoles is for them to be desktops or somewhat mobile computers. A PS3 can do a lot of the stuff a desktop can. It just needs different software and it'd be full fledged. Why pay $400 for 2 devices with nearly the same hardware?

Rather than hardcore gamer you might like to think of yourself as a concrete thinker who struggles with change. Of course Kinect is going to make it into the next generation of console and expect Sony to improve their Eyetoy so it surpasses Kinect.

Kinect technology is also going to make it's way into mobile devices both phones and tablets.

How else do you expect gaming to evolve; improved graphics alone are not going to warrant a new console. Soon your mobile phone is going to be more powerful than XBox and it won't take much of a leap in technology to be able to hookup a PS3 controller via Bluetooth to your android device and HDMI to your 55" Samsung.

I have to agree with ya there, there is a dumbing down of games and "everyone has to be a winner" but if I recall it was the hardcore games that started that with the whole "respawn" idea that weaseled it's way into single player campaigns. Having actually lived and played games in arcades in Japan...I can say that you're on target there. They are insane and some are absurdly complex to learn.

As for the Kinect itself, to be honest when friends are over we use the Kinect a lot, and I do use it to play weird games like Kinect Adventures and Kinectimals which is oddly addicting for some reason. I also play Child of Eden these days which is a surreal experience with no controller at all (I've played it both ways and it's a weird giddy feeling you get while not using anything but your body)

The fact that Kinect does have eye tracking, even if it is basic right, and it does have voice recognition to some extent, again basic, shows that the tech is there and maybe the next version of it will have far more sensitive bits about it. The fact that they've updated it to even finger movement with just software updates shows the levels of sensitivity that's possible. Either way it's too early to judge it. The idea of head tracking (Forza4) and better team based coordination (in single player modes) for games like Mass Effect, Gears3 and other games shows promise though, we'll have to see what they do with it fully before weighing in on it completely.

I also love the fact that I don't have to look for a remote at all when watching something on Netflix. Sure that's lazy of me but voice control for that is great and I'm sure the implementation that they're planning with bringing the search functions of Bing into the fold make it worthwhile as well. So right now the games aren't there, true, but it could be coming.

*For the record I don't even own an iPhone nor play many games on my smart phone. When traveling I use my DSi. I also don't really play that many "casual" games. When on my own it's Forza, Gears, CoD, Mass Effect, Alan Wake (when the mood strikes), MNC, Portal, etc...
