Sharp, Sony announce LCD joint venture deal

In an interesting move, Sharp and Sony have announced a joint venture today that would team up the companies in an effort to produce and sell very large LCD panels.

Apparently, come December 29th, Sony will be injecting the equivalent of $105 million into Sharp Display Products in an effort to create a share split of 66-percent Sharp and 34-percent Sony. The deal is set to be completed by March 10th of next year, the end result will primarily be 32-inch LCD screens. Sony currently uses AU Optronics LCD panels, so it will be interesting to see how this move effects their other ventures.
