Wow, these are pretty cool. Brand new from Sennheiser, these wireless earbuds are completely unconnected, offering up greater mobility and an added stylish flair. However, they are currently only available for the Japanese market.

Each earbud is completely independent from the other, though they do work in conjunction. Each features a 2.4GHz wireless receiver. Plus, they can stay charged for up to 10 hours at a time. They also feature a “twist-to-fit” design, making it so the earbuds stay in your ears securely. Four earbuds are included, so two people can listen through the same transmitter at a time.
One potential problem here, however, is that though wireless and bandless earbuds might seem like a great convenience, what happens if they do fall out of your ears? It seems they would be lost much easier than if they had been attached by a wire. The price is considerable at $630, putting them way out of the price range of many. What do you think about the wireless design? Good idea, or no?

One Response to “Sennheiser announces MX W1 unconnected ear buds”
Anonymous December 2, 2008
You need to correct this posting as the Sennheiser MX W1 are available in the States and various other countries around the world. I think that they were either just made available in Japan or will be soon, but they are not exclusive to Japan.
Also, perhaps the pricing is correct for Japan taking into consideration currency exchange, but they are available in the States at $499.99 USD. Visit http://www.kleer.com/purchase if you want to learn more.
One more correction. The MX W1 doesn’t ship with four earbuds, just two. I think where the confusion lies is that the Kleer technology that powers the CD-quality wireless audio of the MX W1 allows for two people, both wearing a wireless earbud in each ear, to listen to the same music source (so four earbuds altogether receive music). Simply fix the MX W1 transmitter to your personal audio/video player (iPod, MP3 players, DVD and CD players as well as other AV devices with 3.5mm stereo plug) and you can start listening to CD-quality wireless music immediately.
