There are plenty of screen protectors on the market today for the iPhone 5 and the Samsung Galaxy S III. Typically, the protectors are thin films of clear material that stick to the screen using adhesive or static electricity. The problem with these sorts of films is that they tend peel away or bubble.
Back in November, Seidio unveiled a new tempered glass screen protector for the iPad. The company is back with a tempered glass screen protector for the iPhone 5 and the Samsung Galaxy S III. Rather than being a film you apply to the screen, this is an actual piece of glass that covers the glass screen of your smartphone.
The small and precisely cut sheet of glass promises to be shatterproof and has tapered edges to make it look better and be more durable. The glass has a 9H hardness rating allowing it survive scratches and abrasions. The glass is also strong enough to protect against impacts.
The glass attaches to the screen of the iPhone or other device using a strong silicone adhesive that is included. The glass makes the device 0.55 mm thicker and has oleophobic coating helping prevent fingerprints and smudges. Seidio does make some cases that will still fit the iPhone 5 and the S III with the VITREO glass screen protector in place. The VITERO screen protector is available for $39.95.
