WWDC 2013 software wrap-up: iOS 7 and OS X Mavericks lead the way

, Jun 10th 2013 Discuss [2]

This year’s WWDC keynote revealed both the next generation in Apple’s mobile operating system and their change of name re-track of their desktop-based OS X. With iOS 7, Jony Ive’s look and feel are rather apparent with a top-to-bottom adjustment to the operating system along with some pointed connections to the desktop side of things. Apple’s update to OS X, on the other hand, sees a slightly less drastic adjustment happening: and no, that’s not OS X Sea Lion, it’s more of a wave sort of situation.

Apple WWDC 2013 hardware wrap-up: MacBook Air, AirPort Extreme, Mac Pro

, Jun 10th 2013 Discuss [7]

In Apple’s 2013 developers conference main keynote, the company showed a select few bits and pieces in the hardware realm. While no new mobile devices were unleashed, the desktop environment was given a bit of a bump with a MacBook Air refresh as well as a total re-thinking of the way the Mac Pro exists: 1/8th the size of its predecessor.

New Mac Pro 2013 eyes-on

Apple’s new Mac Pro 2013 isn’t due to hit shelves until later this year, but that hasn’t stopped the desktop from getting a preview at WWDC 2013. Long overdue an update, the new Mac Pro hasn’t held back, a significant departure from the aluminum tower of the current model, not to mention ramping up the specifications until this is the most powerful Mac to-date.

Apple OS X Mavericks gets official

, Jun 10th 2013 Discuss [3]

Apple has a long and rich history with their popular Desktop OS. OS X has been a staple in the computing world for a long, long time. Today they’ve just announced Sea Lion? All jokes aside, since they’ve ran out of Big Cat names to follow up Mountain Lion, Leopard and more, they’ve moved on to a California naming theme. Starting with the sea and surfing mavericks right in their backyard.

WWDC 2013 iOS 7 expectations: 8 features we’ll be waiting for

WWDC is coming up quick, folks. On Monday, we’d like to think that Apple will be announcing some new products, including some new MacBooks, a possible iRadio announcement, and maybe a Mac Pro refresh. However, something we’re almost certain about is an iOS 7 unveil, thanks to getting a peek at the banners at Moscone West before WWDC kicks off. I’ve spent a lot of time with iOS, and while I mostly love the user interface, design, and apps, there are several features that are downright annoying that Apple needs to fix in iOS 7.

WWDC 2013 Hardware Expectations: MacBook Air, Retina Pro, Mac Pro refresh

, Jun 8th 2013 Discuss [5]

Monday will be the day that Apple brings its yearly developers conference to the city of San Francisco once again, with plenty of software updates in the wings: but what about hardware? Here in the week before WWDC 2013, several devices have been tipped or otherwise leaked, with upgrades and refreshes of devices we’ve seen in the past looking to be the stars of the main event keynote. This will mirror last years’ event in which several notebooks were given upgrades and the Mac Pro was given a boost behind the scenes.

WWDC 2013: what you WON’T be seeing

, Jun 7th 2013 Discuss [2]

Starting Monday, Apple’s 2013 iteration of their developers convention WWDC begins in San Francisco – and there’s a lot you’ll not be seeing. It’s not that there’ll be a lot of information under the skin and behind closed doors, that’s not what this is all about. Instead, it’s all about what’s still in the wings at Apple, what’s not quite ready to be released, and what will never, ever be released, especially not next week.

WWDC 2013 software expectations: iOS 7 and OS X 10.9 simplified

, Jun 7th 2013 Discuss [6]

As WWDC approaches, the suggestion that Jony Ive’s assignment on iOS over the past collection of months grows stronger. Here just days away from Apple’s yearly developers conference, the company has been so clear as to post an ultra-flat banner with the number “7″ in the center of it after their flat integration invite. Could it all be so simple at last?

Memoto hands-on: Life-logging with Kickstarter’s wearable camera

Your every moment, documented. That’s the Memoto concept, a tiny wearable camera that snaps a shot every thirty seconds to digitally augment your memory. Early doubts as to whether enough people would want to record each waking moment were quickly squashed when the Memoto Kickstarter saw 11x the expected pledges, though the challenge of bringing such an ambitious product to market has ended up taking the Swedish team longer than expected. We caught up with Martin Källström, CEO and co-founder of Memoto to check out the latest prototype, talk product development in the public eye, and find out what comes next for the clip-on camera.

HTC M4 vs HTC One: wait for Verizon, or wait even longer?

, Jun 5th 2013 Discuss [2]

As the HTC One is confirmed for Verizon here in the United States, so too has an “HTC One Mini” been all but confirmed by a set of leaked up-close photos. These photos are either the work of a hardware tester or an extremely dedicated mock-up artist – as we’re inclined to believe the former, it’s become apparent that a new choice must be made for those waiting for their favorite amalgamation of HTC and Android. Should you pick up an HTC One now, or does it make more sense to wait for the ever-so-slightly smaller HTC M4?
