Sony’s Xperia E4 available for UK pre-orders

Sony’s Xperia E4 available for UK pre-orders

When it was announced, Sony’s Xperia E4 wasn’t quite what we were expecting from Sony. After announcing they’d be dedicating themselves to flagship offerings, a decidedly mid-range phone was a shock to the system. Still, the E4 will find favor with many smartphone users, and the low price point might have Sony’s latest in more hands than their flagship Xperia devices. With big promises like two-day battery life and a pretty respectable spec sheet, UK fans can now pre-order an Xperia E4 via Clove.

Sony Xperia E4 promises 2-day battery life at budget price

Sony Xperia E4 promises 2-day battery life at budget price

Barely half a year has passed since Sony announced the Xperia E3 at IFA 2014. Now it is augmenting its budget smartphone line with the new Xperia E4. Like its predecessor, it promises to give as much of the Sony Xperia experience that it can at price point. This includes a 2,300 mAh battery promised to last 2 days, the distinct Xperia design, as well as customization options. One rather peculiar thing about the Xperia E4 is that Sony has opted to go with a MediaTek CPU this time around.

Sony may not have the Xperia Z4 ready for MWC 2015

Sony may not have the Xperia Z4 ready for MWC 2015

With all the CES hype earlier this month, one company did a great job at quietly wowing us. Sony brought forth some great new imaging devices, as well as a grown-up version of their Smartwatch. SmartEyeglass might be the consumer heads-up wearable we actually want, too. We dismissed mobile from them at CES, as we — along with just about everyone else — assumed MWC this March would give us new Sony mobile devices to fawn over. A new rumor suggests we’ll now have to wait much longer than March to see anything new form Sony mobile.

Folding@Home turns Xperia phones into Alzheimer researchers

Folding@Home turns Xperia phones into Alzheimer researchers

Most smartphone users don't use their devices while they sleep, unless they've mastered the arcane art of sleeptexting. Those devices sit silently and idly, lying in wait for the next time its owner's touch wakes it up. Now, however, those "wasted" computing power can be put to good use even while we slumber, by lending their processing power to more altruistic causes, studying proteins and helping in the fight against diseases like Alzheimer's, thanks to a new Folding@Home app now available on Sony's Xperia smartphones.

Xperia Z3 limited editions feature art inspired by Berlin, Tokyo, and Warsaw

Sony gets teasing: new Xperia Z4, tablet, or something else?

Sony gets teasing: new Xperia Z4, tablet, or something else?

When it comes to CES, you can either take LG and Samsung's approach and gush announcements ahead of the show, or you can go with Sony's strategy and get teasing. The company has taken a mystery approach, believed to be for its upcoming Xperia smartphone, with a video titled "Welcome to the New World" that drops a few hints ahead of Sony's CES 2015 press conference on January 5th. While there's no outright shots of the phone, you can get a glimpse of it at various points, including one rather artful reflection in a user's eye.

Sony’s next Xperia tablet rumored for 4K, 6GB RAM

Sony’s next Xperia tablet rumored for 4K, 6GB RAM

Sony is no stranger to CES, and tends to make the event their forum for announcing new products. Last year, we saw a bevy of awesome new cameras and a still-in-progress SmartBand tracker. Another thing Sony does well is high-end devices and products. The latest rumor has Sony going absolutely off on tablets, bringing a massive screen capable of 4K resolution. The rumored spec sheet is equally insane, boasting more RAM than you’ve ever heard of on a mobile device.

Sony Xperia Aquatech store requires SCUBA diving lessons

Sony Xperia Aquatech store requires SCUBA diving lessons

If you're marketing extremely waterproof devices, what would be the best way to get that point across? Well, why not put a store underwater! As if taking a page from Apple's glass retail store in New York, Sony put its concept store four meters under the sea in Dubai. Of course, you won't be getting there on your own and you'll to undergo diving lessons before you are accompanied by trained drivers to the store.

Xperia Z3V vs Z3 Camera battle: the Quality Drop

Xperia Z3V vs Z3 Camera battle: the Quality Drop

The following is a brief exploration of the back-facing cameras on the Sony Xperia Z3 and Z3V. While the hardware is supposed to be essentially identical in this area, we know for a fact that we're working with slightly different builds in the software department. The Z3V is Verizon's unique version of the Xperia Z3 from Sony, bringing a slightly thicker build and the built-in ability to wirelessly charge its battery. The Z3 we have is T-Mobile's model, the same model you'll find off-contract straight from Sony.

Xperia Z4 details spill: Evolution, not Revolution

Xperia Z4 details spill: Evolution, not Revolution

Sony's next smartphone may well be the first to leak its parts this season as we prepare for the whole 2015 batch. What we're seeing here is said to be the Sony Xperia Z4, the next in a line of devices that look so extremely similar, you'd be forgiven for mistaking one for any one of the others. This device is tipped to be working with a front panel here so similar to its predecessor that it's even more difficult to tell them apart than the last two.
