Sony has teased that it will launch a new online video service through the PS3, but details very much remain a mystery. There is a lot of speculation, ranging from ideas that it could be a service on par with the Xbox 360's partnerships with Verizon and Comcast, to the notion that it could simply be another video-on-demand platform like Vudu and the PSN's proprietary video store that doesn't necessarily bring a lot of new and exciting content to the platform.

The prognostication on the next generation of consoles has begun. Like Federal elections, it probably began the minute the last generation hit the market. No sooner does the Playstation 3 hit the market than spectators start wondering about the PlayStation 4. Did they expect Sony or Microsoft to roll over and play dead? Well, in the case of Sega, this may have actually happened. But while I enjoy a good product rumor as much as the next tech junkie, I think that it is not only too early to start discussing the next generation of console, it might even be dangerous for us, the players.
Microsoft Xbox 720 job listings hunt game and audio talent
We don’t know when Microsoft are planning to spring the next-generation version of the Xbox upon the world, but that doesn’t mean they’re not working on it behind the scenes. The latest information points to Microsoft putting out the call for a software developer engineer to work at Redmond. The job advert, which has since been pulled, read, “Join us as an integral part of the team tasked to revolutionize audio for the next generation of Xbox.”

BioShock Infinite for PS3 release date announced
Developer Irrational Games finally announced today via the PlayStation Blog the release date for its highly anticipated game title BioShock Infinite. This follow-up is expected to dwarf the original BioShock in scope and ambition, says the company's president and creative director Ken Levine. The project has been much talked about and is four years in the making.

Microsoft files antitrust complaint against Motorola
Microsoft has joined Apple in filing an antitrust complaint against Motorola Mobility, claiming the company is trying to use online video standards patents as a weapon, and that new owner Google is doing nothing to stop it. According to Microsoft’s Deputy General Counsel, Dave Heiner, Motorola is demanding the company yank Windows PCs, Xbox 360 consoles and more from store shelves in North America and Europe, “or else remove their standards-based ability to play video and connect wirelessly.” That, Heiner argues, is antitrust behavior, and he shows Microsoft’s sums to prove it: Motorola apparently wants 1,125x the rate in royalty payments as other patent holders.

CinemaNow joins Xbox 360 streaming options
If Hulu, Netflix, YouTube, Crackle, live TV, and Microsoft's own proprietary video download platform wasn't enough for you, there is a new way to stream movies and TV shows from your Xbox 360. CinemaNow, which operates as a joint deal between Best Buy and Sonic Solutions, has launched an official app for the Microsoft platform, further expanding the reach of its 14,000 pieces of content.

I’m often asked when Sony will launch its next PlayStation. Just about everyone is interested in finding out if the next console the consumer electronics giant offers up can be as appealing and popular as its predecessors.
