Pebble Time beats Kickstarter goal in 15 minutes

Pebble Time beats Kickstarter goal in 15 minutes

As of the publishing of this article, Pebble Time will have beaten its goal nearly twice over in its first hour being online. This Kickstarter project mirrors the original Pebble release, this time coming with a device with a color display and three unique color options for the device's border and band. There's a black watch case with silicone band with black PVD stainless steel bezel, white with silver, and red with black - all with the same functionality and specifications, of course.

Pebble Color edition: this is (likely) the new lineup

Pebble Color edition: this is (likely) the new lineup

Details surrounding the rumored color display-toting Pebble have leaked this morning just hours before the final, official reveal by the company itself. This smartwatch is very similar to its predecessor, this time coming with a display that includes color. The physical appearance of this device is unlike its predecessor in that it rolls with a slightly more "sporty" feel - but the buttons are still there, and the strap still looks rather rubbery. The operating system inside may have quite a bit of a change-up.

Exploding Kittens the new Kickstarter backer champ

Exploding Kittens the new Kickstarter backer champ

While the Exploding Kittens card game didn't raise the highest amount of money in Kickstarter history - they were 3rd - they did gather the most backers. At around $35 a pop, users were invited to take part in this crowd-funding campaign which offered a card game similar to War. This new-age War game has users flipping over cards with cartoons on them illustrated by the same fellow who illustrates The Oatmeal. That proved well and above enough for quite a few backers over the past month, that's for certain.

Pebble celebrates 1 million sales with a renewed battle cry

With a million smartwatch sales under its belt, it's hard not to take Pebble seriously. In the face of the onslaught of newcomers like Google's Android Wear, pioneer Pebble stood its ground and refused to become just "another" smartwatch company. Sony tipped to be considering an “all e-ink” smartwatch

Sony tipped to be considering an “all e-ink” smartwatch

Smartwatches might be useful, at least to some, but their battery lives are nothing to write home about, given the available space you can cram a battery into. Some smartwatch makes, most notably Pebble, have opted to stay with the colorless but more power-efficient e-ink types of display. Based on an insider source, Sony might be eying something similar too, but with an intriguing twist. It won't just be the watch face that will be using e-ink, but the whole wrist band itself as well.

Pebble’s Domino’s app tracks deep dish from your wrist

Pebble’s Domino’s app tracks deep dish from your wrist

It's not entirely clear why smartwatch companies seem convinced we need to manage our food from our wrists, but if you're a Pebble wearer whose been looking hungrily at Android Wear's Eat24 app, salvation is almost at hand. Domino's is launching a new delivery tracker for the e-paper smartwatch, with real-time updates as to where, exactly, your dinner is fed straight to your arm. However, it's not quite the watch to table digital food service that you might hope for.

Microsoft Band vs the Wearable Competition

Microsoft Band vs the Wearable Competition

You'd need a very big wrist to wear this year's crop of fitness bands and smartwatches, but Microsoft believes the new Microsoft Band can elbow out the competition. Straddling the line between smartwatch and health tracker - not to mention spanning not only Windows Phone but iPhone and Android, in a play for cross-compatibility that rivals could learn a lesson from - the sensor-packed wearable claims to deliver the best of both worlds. In the process, though, Microsoft has arguably given itself double the challenge, so I pulled up my sleeves to see how the Microsoft Band holds up.

Microsoft’s fitness wearable said just weeks away

Microsoft's long-rumored smartwatch plans will reach fruition in just a few weeks time, insiders claim, with what's said to be a fitness-centric wearable expected to debut imminently. The Windows-maker's ambitions in the space have been well whispered since last year, and as recently as June 2014 there were suggestions that the unnamed wrist-band would hit the market in October, complete with a full complement of motion-tracking sensors.
