Android builds smartphone lead as Windows Phone shrinks

Android extended its grip on worldwide smartphone market share in Q2 2014, the latest numbers from IDC suggest, while iOS and Windows Phone both declined, despite iPhone sales jumping year-over-year. Android devices now comprise almost 85-percent of total smartphone share, up from just short of 80-percent in the same period a year ago, while despite Microsoft's efforts with Windows Phone, market share and worldwide shipments both fell.

Yesterday we saw some of the new features coming to Windows Phone devices by way of the first update to version 8.1. Now we're being given a more detailed look at some of those features, including some that we haven't heard about yet.
