Cortana on Windows 10 will support 6 more countries soon

Windows 10 is bringing Cortana, but only for some users. That was disappointing news for those in regions outside of where it would be supported, but, of course, Microsoft has plans to expand the number of countries where it will be available. When Windows 10 launches later on this month, Cortana will be available to those in the United States, United Kingdom, France, Italy, Germany, Spain, and China. Over the remaining months of 2015, though, it will be gradually expanded to include six additional countries.

Meanwhile, the company is also promising a $10m fund to be split between nonprofits large and small.

Windows’ Wi-Fi Sense might be more trouble than it’s worth

Windows’ Wi-Fi Sense might be more trouble than it’s worth

Sharing a Wi-Fi password in a room or office isn't exactly a herculean task. One can write it down, for example. It can, however, certainly be made easier. And by easier, Microsoft means automagical. That's why it invented Wi-Fi Sense as a way to easily share Wi-Fi credentials with friends so that they can easily connect to the same network you're on. Sounds convenient? Probably, but considering the way things are going right now, it might also be a security nightmare waiting to happen.

Windows 10 Build 10158: Edge udpates, Cortana for Office 365

We are now on the verge of counting down the days to Microsoft's most anticipated, whether with excitement or with dread, Windows 10 release. But before that ball starts rolling, the company has a few more builds for its Insiders to try out. By this time, major changes to functionality should already be minimal in order to prepare for the final release. And that indeed shows in this latest 10158 build, which focuses more on polishing the user interface and getting things to work just right.

Windows 10 Mobile build 10136: one-handed use, polished Cortana

With Windows 10 for desktops and tablets nearing completion, Microsoft seems to be showering some well-deserved attention to Windows 10 Mobile, which still doesn't have a release date. The latest build, number 10136, brings in some interesting new features and, thankfully, implements some long-standing wishes from Windows Phone insiders. But as interesting and as good at this update might be, it also brings in some headaches for the brave souls who volunteer to take these early versions for a spin for the rest of us.

Windows 10 preview build 10130: Cortana shortcut and more

Microsoft has pushed out the latest Windows 10 Insider Preview build, bringing it to build 10130. Because the builds are fairly far along at this point, they no longer bring with them big changes that add big features — rather, at this point, it’s more polishing things up and tweaking things when needed. As such, you’ll find a lot of smaller changes with build 10130, perhaps some that you were hoping would happen, including things as simple as a new shortcut for Cortana to customization of the Start experience.

No Windows 10 smartphones this summer

It's no secret that Microsoft plans to launch Windows 10 on computers this summer. If you were hoping that meant that the operating system would be landing on smartphones this summer as well, we have some bad news.
