Archos PC Stick offers Windows 10 on an HDMI dongle budget

Archos PC Stick offers Windows 10 on an HDMI dongle budget

The trend of PC sizes is interesting and amusing. For a time, computers, even laptops, have almost become gargantuan, cramming every piece of technological wizardry inside. Now, however, things are going the other ways, with laptops touting thin and lightweight bodies and PCs coming in small, nondescript boxes. We now even have perfectly usable PCs the size of an HDMI stick. Archos, who is probably more known for its Android tablets and smartphones than its Windows devices, is jumping on the latter, with a new PC stick that promises both Windows 10 and a sub-$100 price tag.

HoloLens hands-on: Building for Windows Holographic

HoloLens hands-on: Building for Windows Holographic

Back in January, HoloLens was a Frankenstein’s monster of a headset. In fact, the eyepiece itself was only part of the test rig: the rest was conspicuously tethered to it with a physical cable hooked up to a Windows 10 PC. To say there’s been a dramatic shift in hardware in the ninety days or so since then is an understatement. Microsoft brought a fleet of HoloLens prototypes to BUILD 2015, each of them a standalone computer, eyepiece, sensor rig, and spatial sound system all integrated into a single headset, and offered me the opportunity to see what creating a Windows Holographic experience was like.

Windows 10: latest preview build brings Spartan browser

Microsoft has pushed out the latest Windows 10 Preview Build (10049), and with it comes the long-coveted Project Spartan browser. That's just about the only notable addition to the latest build, which follows the release of Build 10041 we recently discussed. Some of the issues brought on by the last build are fixed in this latest one, as well, such as getting stuck when locking the PC. Project Spartan is the big focus this time around, however, something Microsoft likewise detailed today to get users up-to-date on what all it has to offer.

“Windows 93″: a psychedelic nightmare that could have been

“Windows 93″: a psychedelic nightmare that could have been

The decision to call the next Windows version Windows 10 and not Windows 9 has prompted a look back at the history of Windows version naming, particularly those that were released back in the 90s. It might have also prompted some musing of what could have been. For example, what if Bill Gates and Steve Ballmer, after one too many rounds at the bar, decided to make an interim release before Windows 95? What would have been the design and what would have been the experience? Wonder no more, because Windows 93 has finally been released.
