Windows Phone 7.8 update landing on January 31

Those of you who have been waiting for the long-rumored Windows Phone 7.8 update to arrive have been given a reason to smile, as its roll out has seemingly confirmed for later this month. Windows Phone Colombia spilled the beans in a post to its Facebook page, saying that phones running Windows Phone 7.5 should be getting the update to 7.8 starting on January 31. That's a little more than a week away, so hopefully what we're hearing from Windows Phone Colombia is accurate.

Gigabyte has revealed a pair of new Windows 8 tablets, the 11-inch S1185 complete with a Full HD IPS display, and its smaller sibling, the 10-inch S1082. The larger of the two, the Gigabyte S1185, packs an Intel Core ULV processor, up to 8GB of DDR3 memory, up to 256GB of mSATA SSD storage, and both USB 3.0 and USB 2.0 connectivity, though it's the 1920 x 1080 IPS display that will probably be most appealing.

BlueStacks beta for Mac brings 750,000+ Android apps to OS X

Android app player BlueStacks has launched for Mac, with a new beta allowing OS X users to run software intended for Android phones and tablets on their iMac, MacBook Pro, or other Apple kit. The freshly released beta - which follows a similar Windows version released earlier this year - means more than 750,000 Android titles can now be run on OS X, a huge increase from the sparse number of compatible titles from June's alpha release for Mac.
